Raymond has years of advocacy experience having appeared extensively in a range of jurisdictions. Criminal Law and related areas
Raymond approaches each case with care and meticulous attention to detail and draws on his expertise and broad experience to advocate for his clients.

He regularly appears in matters involving sexual offences, illicit drugs, motor vehicle offences and matters involving allegations of family violence. He has advised and appeared in matters involving the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Fisheries Act and maintains an interest in matters affecting the environment including litigation arising out of the Environmental Protection Act.

He has advised and appeared in various contested applications adjacent to criminal matters, including objections to subpoenaed materials on the basis of privilege and public interest immunity. Raymond has particular experience in litigation involving applications under the Evidence (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act including section 32C applications relating to evidence of confidential communications.

In the area of Criminal Law, he is experienced in preparing and appearing in appeals at the County Court. He has appeared unled the Supreme Court and led in the Court of Appeal. He routinely appears in contests in the summary stream in the Magistrates’ Court and the Criminal Division of the Children’s Court.

Raymond will accept briefs for both the prosecution and defence.?

Raymond has extensive experience the area of administrative law and has a particular interest in the review of administrative decisions and the exercise of legislative authority.

At the Commonwealth level, he advises and appears in matters involving the Migration Act and has recently been representing applicants in judicial review of visa decisions. Before moving to Victoria, Raymond spent 6 years with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (now Department of Home Affairs) and draws on his extensive experience as he welcome briefs to advise and appear in merits and judicial review matters on behalf of applicants.

At the state level, he has appeared and advised on matters concerning the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act, the Child, Wellbeing and Safety Act, and the Guardianship and Administration Act. He appears in contested matters in state jurisdictions including VCAT but also has particular experience in advising on matters arising out of the Road Safety Act, Family Violence Protection Act and the Firearms Act.

Raymond maintains an interest in other areas that intersect with Federal Administrative Law including matters involving the Human Rights, the NDIS amongst others.

Disciplinary and Regulatory
Raymond maintains a diverse disciplinary and regulatory practice. He provides written legal advice and accepts briefs to appear in these matters.

Raymond has experience in serving as a legal member on appeals tribunals where he has been tasked with conducting a hearing and determining regulatory and disciplinary matters on behalf of professional bodies.

Family and Children
Raymond has extensive experience dealing with matters involving children. He has appeared in the Federal Circuit and Family Court in Family Law proceedings and also maintains an interest in adjacent areas.

He maintains a practice that includes advising and appearing in intervention order proceedings including contraventions, and other briefs that intersect with family law.
