About Michael

Michael's practice is focused on criminal law and related areas, but also extends to commercial and public law.

On the criminal side of his practice, Michael has acted for both prosecution and defence. He has appeared in all Victorian jurisdictions and the High Court of Australia. He has appeared in numerous jury trials, both led and unled. From 2016 to 2020, he acted as junior counsel for the CDPP in numerous criminal appeals and proceedings relating to the activities of Nicola Gobbo as a registered police informer. Michael has drafted written cases and appeared in numerous appeals in the Court of Appeal on behalf of the OPP and the CDPP.

On the civil side of his practice, Michael has appeared in contested matters in the Magistrates' Court, County Court, VCAT and has also acted as counsel assisting the Building Practitioners Board.

Before coming to the Bar, Michael was a researcher, judge's associate, and registry lawyer at the Supreme Court of Victoria, Court of Appeal.

Michael has also worked as a sessional tutor at Melbourne University Law School, a teacher of English and Spanish language, and a freelance NAATI accredited Spanish to English translator.

Michael read with Mark Black and his senior mentor was Peter Kidd SC (shortly before his Honour's appointment to the bench).
